Roannie was appointed as the Pasifika Outreach and Research Fellow in 2011. This is a joint position with SSGM and the Dean’s Office, College of Asia and the Pacific. Her current work involves providing academic leadership of the ANU’s Pasifika Australia Program, aligning it with higher education equity and access priorities and opportunities nationally, developing collaborative partnerships with Pasifika communities and with other Australian universities, and working with schools and youth groups to enhance educational opportunities for young people from Pacific Islander backgrounds. As part of her work in developing relations with Pacific Island communities she is a member of the NRL Pasifika Advisory Board.

Prior to coming to the ANU Roannie lectured at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland and was a research analyst for the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs in New Zealand. Together with Dr Jack Corbett, Roannie is currently the co-convenor of Navigating Pacific Studies 101⅙011, the first online course offered by the College of Asia and the Pacific
