The United Nations Pacific Strategy (UNPS) 2018-2022 is a five year strategic framework that outlines the collective response of the UN system to the development priorities in 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories, namely Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. The UNPS supports the 14 governments and peoples in the Pacific to advance a localised response to the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It prioritises six outcome areas: 1) Climate Change, Disaster Resilience and Environmental Protection; 2) Gender Equality; 3) Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Empowerment; 4) Equitable Basic Services (health, education, social protection); 5) Governance and Community Engagement; and 6) Human Rights.

In this panel discussion, hosted by the ANU’s Department of Pacific Affairs, several senior representatives from UN Pacific Offices will provide an overview of the UNPS 2018-2022 and their efforts in the six outcome areas outlined above. More broadly, they will discuss planned support for Pacific Island countries to advance the 2030 Agenda (SDGs) at national level and at the regional level and the value of the multilateral approach.
